A Bit About Me
Onyx is definitely the most important aspect of my life, but he's not the only one (to his great dismay).
Who Am I?
In case you couldn't tell from the URL, my name is Daniel Adams. I'm a recent college graduate with a degree in English and a focus on creative writing. I live in the California Bay Area and enjoy reading/watching science fiction, listening to music, and sometimes writing creative works.
Science Fiction
While I've been reading fantasy books since elementary school, my first real introduction to science fiction was Neal Stephenson's Anathem. Since then, I've read dozens of novels and come to love the genre. I enjoy reading, watching, and discussing science fiction with others.
While there are far too many to list, some of my favorites are Babylon 5, Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series, and Star Wars (even though it's more science fantasy than science fiction).
Music
Another major aspect of my life is my appreciation for music. I typically listen to soundtrack from movies, TV shows, and games. Often the science fiction media I consume leads me to new music I can listen to on repeat until I burn myself out from it.
A few soundtracks I particularly enjoy are Skyrim, the Maze Runner movies, Kevin Kiner's Star Wars work (Rebels, The Bad Batch, Ahsoka), and quite a few compositions by Lorne Balfe.
My Writing
In the past I've written some science fiction short stories, but of late have tended towards poetry. I've also written papers for various school assignments, including essays about Chinese literature, history, philosophy, and, of course, English. I've added some of my work to this website for you to look through and (hopefully) enjoy.
Inspirations
The most common inspirations for my writing are science fiction, philosophical concepts, wordplay, and humor. Other times I read a particularly good poem and decide to write something on the same topic.
